“The Destination Justifies the Journey…but How Does One Survive the Trip?”
The summer is a natural time in which to slow the pace, spend more time in peaceful locations far away from stress and distractions of modern life, and to reflect deeply on issues of how to develop our mental, physical, and spiritual resources.
Christa Metzger, author of Balancing Leadership and Personal Growth, says, “We (as leaders) have to know ourselves and maintain an adequate supply of necessary resources—mental, physical, and spiritual … for us to do so, we must first take care of themselves.”
Metzger maintains that while the “pain and peril” of leadership is real and inevitable, so are the rewards. “The destination justifies the journey. But how does one survive the trip? That calls for marshalling your resources and creating a sense of balance in your life.”
The articles in the June edition of the Leadership Guide Magazine (a free electronic publication to promote effective, ethical leadership) will provide inspiration and practical ways to organize your summer reflections so that a mid-year transformation will carry you to new levels of performance and provide better balance in your life.
