There is no question about it, we ARE living in troubled economic times. Layoffs in June were the highest in the United States since June 2003 and big name companies are announcing big cuts almost daily. You know the names; Starbucks and GE are two examples that quickly come to mind. The big question today is how does one lead effectively and ethically during these “crazy times?”
Tom Peters is the perfect management “guru” and thinker to feature in August edition of the Leader Guide Magazine (provided free as a public service by CLICKING HERE). Why him, now? He may be the most brutally honest leadership guru in the America, and is considered by many as being a “cornerstone” in the field of ethics. The two articles featuring the current thinking of Tom Peters were written by our editor Linda Hatcher and are entitled, Champion of Bold Measures (CLICK HERE) and Re-Imagine! Ethical Solutions for these Crazy Times (CLICK HERE).
The third article is witten by Fred A. Manske Jr. the former CEO of Purolator Courier, Ltd. and Senior Vice President of Sales and Operations for Federal Express. It is entitled What a Leader Must Do to Run an Ethical Organization (CLICK HERE). Let me leave you with one thought from the article: First and foremost, you as the leader MUST always set the example for others to follow by performing all of your duties in an ethical manner. In short, you must LIVE the values daily. It is only then that you can insist that other people in the organization do the same thing. REMEMBER, IT ALL STARTS AT THE TOP.
