As the current painful economic crisis continues it’s becoming increasingly apparent that “business as usual” will not solve the deeply imbedded problems that we’re afflicted with. Clearly, paradigm shifts in thinking and planning are required if our economy is to become whole again.
“Paradigm shifts” and all the implications thereof have been the preoccupation of Megatrends 2010 author Patricia Auburdene whose book review is featured in the October edition of Leadership Guide Magazine . Even four years ago when the book was published, some of her ideas seemed startling. Today, they are emerging as a new consciousness. That consciousness as relative to business in America is specified by Aburdene as “conscious capitalism.” This is the subject of our first article by editor Linda Hatcher.
In a related article, we identify five exemplary corporations that are profitably integrating specific ideas stated by Auburdene and other business visionaries. An example is a profile of “change agent” Barbara Waugh of HP. Her motto? “Do well by doing good.”
The old saying, “If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you have always gotten” is a mantra we should all embrace as we create new paradigms for the future.
