The Challenge to Social Leadership
It is easy to be consumed with the demands of our own spheres of work and home and turn a weary “I-give-up” eye to the increasing societal brokenness around us. Every now and then, however, we need to think about using our leadership skills to help the world. If our country continues its current trajectory (downward), nothing we accomplish professionally or individually will matter in the collective chaos.
A group of authors and former education leaders has created an amazing website (www.thesocialleader.com) to do their part to remind us all: we all are leaders, and in numerous spheres. Not only do we have the mandate to continue development as ethical, effective leaders in our professional realms, we also have to take up a commitment to personal leadership in making a difference in our communities and world.
The first article in the May edition of the FREE Leadership Guide Magazine is entitled “The Social Leader: A new vision of leadership is needed.” It gives an overview of the six pillars of SOCIAL leadership that form the acronym: Submission, Oneness, Calling, Integral Education, Action and Liberty. The article also details the ethical hallmarks of each category.
In a related story, “Social Leaders Lead by Serving, Rather Than Ruling,” we focus on some truly inspiring real-world, everyday leaders who maximize ethical, effective leadership to positively change the world.
We hope you find these articles worthwhile in your pursuit of effective, ethical leadership.
